If you are seeing a “For Development Purposes” message on your Google Maps like the image below, it is because you have a Google API key but the Billing Account is not Active. This can happen when you have had a change in Credit Card number, Expiry Update or you started initially with a GOOGLE CLOUD FREE TRIAL and that trial has ended and you need to ENABLE the billing account going forward.
Log into https://cloud.google.com/maps-platform/ with your Google Account.
Click on CONSOLE
Click MENU (3 horizontal lines) and BILLING
Click Go to MANAGE BILLING ACCOUNTS
If you don’t see a Billing Account Listed there, it is because it is not active, Click on CREATE ACCOUNT to create a new Billing account. Once done, you should be able to go back into MANAGE BILLING ACCOUNTS and SEE THE ACTIVE ACCOUNT you created.
Click on MY PROJECTS
And Ensure your Project is allocated to your New Billing Account name. If not, click on the three dots on the right and change the billing account to your active account.
This should now have your API linked to an ACTIVE Billing account and the MAPS will no longer show “For Development Purposes”.
